Billy Ingham previews the Burnley v Southampton game for Burnley Chat this week. A former rugby player and now Director of Rugby at Burnley RUFC, Billy works for Businesswise Solutions and can regularly be seen in the James Hargreaves Stand watching the Clarets.

He took a few moments out to give us his thoughts on the season opener….

Name: Billy Ingham

Age:  30 something…honestly

Occupation:  Business Development Director, Business Wise Solutions

Season Ticket Holder:    No, BWS entertain clients regularly on match days however. So I get to plenty of  games.

Favourite Ever Burnley Player:   Kevin Ball, for that tackle. Enough said.

Best Burnley Player:   Jay Rod and Barnes. I couldn’t choose between the two.

Thoughts on Burnley v Southampton: We will definitely win. There is no doubt in my mind. We will have too much for our southern friends.

Dyche is a quality manager and he has added a couple of shrewd signings already. I know some fans are vocal, stating that they we need more players. I tend to agree in the sense that the squad is perhaps a little sparse in key positions, but Dyche knows what he is doing. He won’t do a Fulham for example and blow £100 million on a squad that doesn’t add to what he already has.

But I do hope BFC haven’t finished just yet with their transfer business. There are rumours this week about Drinkwater joining on loan from Chelsea. Get someone like him and suddenly it has been a successful transfer window, despite the loss of Tom Heaton. Tom is obviously a loss. But we have Nick Pope ready to step in. He is more than capable of playing every week, as he has shown already. Hart is decent back up, so no need to panic.

Our pre-season form has been very encouraging. Some of the football against Parma, Nice and Wigan, although still pre-season, was of the highest quality. We have attacking options, and perhaps for the first time in a while no one is really sure about who the starters are. For me, I would like to see Jay start against his former club and bag a couple.

Southampton obviously have their own players that can be a threat. Danny Ings has struggled with injuries in recent times, but if they get him fit he can cause any team problems. Ward-Prowse got back in the first team towards the end of the season and is a player I rate. But overall, I think we will have too much for the Saints. The weather forecast is bleak  and with the fans in full voice, the Saints won’t fancy it at all. Plus we have Ben Mee.

Prediction: 2- 0, home win.
